The side and by-products of chemical synthesis and bacterial expression is of interest for optimizing production yield, however their purification from the final sample is a must. Elimination of any byproducts from a sample is a prerequisite of a reliable structure determination, often completed via chromatography. Our chromatography laboratory is thus in key position and forms the central and core facility as shown on the flow chart depicting sample preparation. Its ultimate goal is to purify proteins, peptides, carbohydrates, special amino acid residues etc. by using gel-chromatography, FPLC, HPLC, etc. both at an analytical and semi-preparative scale.
